120 volts

So I asked on the smallbizit@yahoogroups.com  (Related)   listserve what things you took on the road that you couldn't do without...and one for me is after a few hours is power.  I like to take the train down to Los Angeles and with the exception of the bus part of the trip, you can usually find power in the walls to plug in.  Me, I've started carrying a plug splitter so I can plug multiple things into the wall.  An aircard, power, and a laptop and ... you can connect pretty much anywhere.  Now some would say that this is a little too plugged in, but for me it provides me and family members assurances that we're safe and sound.  My sister who is staying in Los Angeles for a seminar can "hit" me on IM and check in with my progress.  My Dad who we also have also turned onto IM can check in with his daughters.  Yes we may be adults but as our parents age, they like to keep connected and checking in with us.

It's funny how we are changing the way we communicate.  Everyone on the bus has cell phones, many have laptops.

There's starting to be a bit of a buzz starting up about Microsoft's Response point and VOIP in general... http://blog.tmcnet.com/blog/tom-keating/microsoft/microsoft-ocs-2007-vs-microsoft-response-point.asp  (Related)

It will be interesting to see in a few years how VOIP will change communication.  Already cell phones have changed how we communicate, will VOIP as well?  We'll have to see.

 Susan:
I carry a small power strip in my laptop bag - at a minimum I've always got my laptop, PDA and phone plugged in.
